Health ministers from Somalia and Nigeria recently visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi and were impressed by the institute’s infrastructure and research and training programs. During the visit, the health ministers were briefed on patient care, research and tracking facilities, and ongoing projects. They were also taken on a tour of the institute and shown the skill, e-learning, and telemedicine facility, and the Centre for Integrative Medicine and Research (CIMR). The ministers were informed about the various training programs at AIIMS, which include opportunities for students from foreign countries to participate.
The ministers expressed interest in sending medical students from their countries to AIIMS for fellowship and training. The Somalian Health Minister, Ali Haji Adam Abubakar, expressed a desire to strengthen the relationship between his government and India by addressing challenges faced by citizens seeking healthcare.
The ministers’ visit was part of the sixth edition of the Advantage Healthcare India event, held on April 26-27 in Delhi, which aimed to promote medical value travel in the country. Delegates from several countries visited private and government hospitals in Delhi and signed memoranda of understanding for collaboration with Indian hospitals. The MoUs included clinic collaboration, clinical research, capacity building, medical travel to India, and the development of nursing expertise.
The event was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasized India’s strength in holistic healthcare, highlighting the country’s tradition of preventive and promotive health, including practices such as yoga and meditation. India has emerged as an affordable destination for world-class healthcare and wellness services, leading to the country becoming a major hub for medical value travel. The Advantage Healthcare India event highlighted India’s significance in medical potential and provided opportunities for healthcare collaborations among participating countries.
