The European Union has launched a nationwide program in Somalia that is aimed at supporting political stabilization and reconciliation.
This rapid nationwide stabilization program is expected to run for 18 months and will make contributions toward rebuilding crucial government infrastructure, which could include police posts and stations, works for the installation of solar streetlights in the newly liberated areas, and many more such efforts as claimed by the statement released by the European Union on Thursday.
This program will also take action to rehabilitate the damaged water supply infrastructure, which would include boreholes, nature-based water catchments, and other water-related activities in response to reported damage caused by attacks by the al-Shabab terror group. The program also aims to enhance peacebuilding in the newly liberated areas.
Tiina Intelmann, the Ambassador of the European Union to Somalia said in their statement “We are delighted to launch this program and to contribute towards political stabilization and reconciliation in Somalia. We are confident that this program will help the government establish services to the people.”
The Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of Somalia, Ahmed Fiqi welcomed this program and said in his statement “We fully support this program and its ability to foster overall stabilization within Somalia.”
